GLG-ESCMID AMR Meeting
Forging partnerships between science and policy: A high-level Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) event

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) causes 1.3 million deaths and contributes to 5 million deaths every year. By 2030, AMR could force 24 million people into extreme poverty. The drivers of AMR are multifaceted. New and affordable diagnostic testing, disease-prediction tools, vaccines, and non-antimicrobial alternatives do not exist. Research will be needed to help identify the best possible interventions, solutions and approaches in a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral manner. Financial and political commitment, as well as scientific interest, through engagement of governments, private sector, and civil society are crucial.
The Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (GLG) is comprised of world leaders and experts from across sectors, committed to accelerating political action on AMR based on a One Health approach. This ECCMID-affiliated high-level event will take place on 14 April 2023 between 15:00 to 20:00. This high-level event will provide a forum in which policymakers and distinguished scientists are able to engage on key AMR issues and forge partnerships between science and policy. Heads of government and ministers across the One Health spectrum as well as renowned scientists will participate. This session is intended to strengthen the links between research, policy and practice to generate sustainable solutions and a broader research agenda to address the pressing needs of AMR across all sectors.
